HEAD OF DEPARTMENT

Dr. B. Purushotham is an Associate Professor and Head of the Department of Information Technology at Sri Venkateswara College of Engineering. He has over 17 years of experience in teaching profession. He did his B.Tech in CSE from SITAMS, Chittoor (affiliated to JNTUH), and completed his M.Tech and Ph.D. in CSE from Sri Venkateswara University, Tirupati. He has served as a Board of Studies member for the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science program and has held key administrative positions, including Controller of Examinations and Deputy Controller of Examinations, in his previous institutions. Dr. Purushotham has published 18 research papers in reputed national and international journals. His areas of interest include Mobile Ad-Hoc Networks, Computer Networks, Cloud Computing, Operating Systems, and Artificial Intelligence.

OVERVIEW

The Information and Technology (IT) course in Engineering stands out as a uniquely dynamic and impactful educational experience, blending the realms of technology, innovation, and problem-solving. This course embodies the fusion of theoretical knowledge with hands-on practicality, nurturing a breed of engineers who are not just adept at coding and configuring, but also possess a profound understanding of the underlying principles. Today’s digitally equipped world has a major part of its work in the Information Technology arena, offering more scope for innovative research that best influences the human existence for good. The Department of Information Technology was established in the year 2007 offering B.Tech. in IT with a modest intake of 60. The intake of students has been increased from 60 to 180 during the year 2022-2023. Furthermore, the program B.Tech. IT was accredited by NBA in 2020.
The IT course also bridges the gap between academia and industry. Renowned practitioners and experts are often invited to deliver guest lectures, providing students with insights into real-world applications and trends. Additionally, internships, industry projects, and Hackathons are seamlessly woven into the curriculum, enabling students to engage with the corporate sphere and gain practical exposure.

ENGINEERING KNOWLEDGE

Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

PROBLEM ANALYSIS

Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.

MODERN TOOL USAGE

Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

THE ENGINEER AND SOCIETY

Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Murali Krishna serves as a research guide under Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA), further enhancing the department’s research credentials.
